From Pickup to Delivery: The Process of Car Transport Explained
In November 2023, I made the tough decision to leave the hospitality industry, where I'd built my reputation over the past 10 years, to embrace a new world. This change supports not only my mother (and her retirement) but also the family my wife Erica and I are planning to have. While tending and consulting bar programs had its many perks, I knew it wouldn’t be a long-term option for my goals. It's time to share my family business, how it works, and the honor I feel taking over and improving what my father built 45+ years ago.
Anthony Rezzy Auto Transport
Named after both my parents, Anthony Rezzy Auto Transport has evolved significantly over the years. My father, during his time at the launch of Enterprise Rent-A-Car in the 1970s, saw an opportunity in car transport—a service that seems simple but is crucial. Here's how it works:
Get a Quote & Sign Contracts
Call us to discuss your pickup, delivery, and car information. Within minutes, you'll have our contracts. Once signed and the deposit is made, we're off to the races.
Preparing Your Car
Our team schedules your exact pickup time and sends personal drivers to pick up your car. It arrives at our truck terminal and is loaded onto one of our 9-car carriers.
The Journey
Our car carriers drive specific routes, following all safety and regulatory guidelines, and delivering within 3-5 days.
Delivering Your Vehicle
Upon arrival, your car is unloaded, washed, and hand-delivered to your final destination. We are flexible and accomodating to any sort of delivery, be it residential, commercial, or even arrivals at the airports.
Our Unique Approach
Convenience: Unlike other companies, our drivers meet you at your doorstep, avoiding the hassle of driving miles to meet them.
Transparent Quotes: We provide honest quotes without hidden fees or last-minute changes.
Personal Goods: We allow transporting personal items in your vehicle, a convenience most other companies charge for or don’t allow at all.
Vehicle Washing: We wash your vehicle before delivery, a service rarely offered by others.
Niche Business: Serving “Snowbird” Clients
We specialize in transporting "snowbird" vehicles seasonally. For those unaware, "snowbirds" are individuals from colder northern areas who migrate to warmer southern regions during the winter. Typically retirees, they have the flexibility and wealth to live in different places throughout the year. These clients provide consistent, recurring shipments and can afford our slightly higher costs.
On-Going Challenges
Owning and managing this niche, personalized service comes with significant challenges.
Scheduling and Logistics
Coordinating client pickups while managing truckloads is no easy task. Our flexibility to meet clients' needs requires precise logistics. Many of our clients are elderly, with medical appointments and emergencies impacting their schedules. This necessitates meticulous coordination of pickup dates with clients, drivers, and truck schedules.
Increased Costs
Offering door-to-door service raises our costs. We pick up and deliver clients between NJ, NY, and CT up north and both coasts throughout south Florida. Scheduling these efficiently for our hourly paid drivers, along with tolls and fuel expenses, adds to the complexity.
Unavoidable Delays
Delays are often unavoidable. Weather is a major factor; a recent hurricane from Florida to North Carolina delayed two of our trucks. Driving giant car carriers weighing up to 80,000 lbs, wind, rain, and snow all impact safety and transport. Besides weather, mechanical issues like blown airbags, flat tires, and mechanical failures can cause delays and higher costs.
Light at the End of the Tunnel
Navigating these challenges is part of our commitment to personalized, reliable service. Transporting "snowbird" vehicles may have its obstacles, but it's a rewarding journey.
Car transportation is a straightforward business when done right. We offer convenient and personalized service that, for over 45 years, has been a reliable go-to for our clients. I still speak to clients who have been working with my father and this company since before I was born. How many other businesses can say that?
